Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 4-5 Hours
Servings: 24 Sliders
Ingredients:
· For the Pulled Pork:
4-5 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)
1/2 yellow onion
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup chicken broth
2 cups barbecue sauce (plus extra for serving)
· For the Sliders:
24 slider buns
Coleslaw (store-bought or homemade)
Pickles (optional)
Extra BBQ sauce for topping
Directions:
1. Prep Onions and Spices
Slice the onion and place in the bottom of your crockpot.
Mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl to create a rub for the pork.
2. Season the Pork:
Place the pork shoulder in the crock pot and rub the spice mixture all over, ensuring it's well-coated.
Pour in chicken broth around the sides of the pork.
3. Cook the Pork:
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and shreds easily with a fork.
4. Shred the Pork:
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat.
5. Mix with BBQ Sauce:
- Skim off any fat from the liquid left in the slow cooker. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the barbecue sauce. Keep on low heat until everything is heated through and mingling together.
6. Prepare the Sliders:
- Slice the slider buns in half. Pile a generous amount of pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with a spoonful of coleslaw, a drizzle of extra BBQ sauce, and pickles if desired.
7. Serve:
- Cap the sliders with the top halves of the buns. Secure with toothpicks if necessary. Serve immediately and watch them disappear!
