Stuffed Mushroom Appetizer Recipe
Ingredients:
- 24 medium-sized cremini mushrooms
- 1 bunch green onions, finely chopped
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional garnish: fresh thyme sprigs
Steps:
- Prep the Mushrooms: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel, carefully removing the stems. Set the mushroom caps aside and finely chop the stems.
- Prepare the Filling: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped mushroom stems, garlic, and green onions. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until softened. Remove from heat.
- Mix the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom mixture, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley, thyme, and the beaten egg. Mix until well-blended. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Stuff the Mushrooms: Place the mushroom caps on a baking sheet. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the caps. Spoon the filling into each cap, generously packing it in.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake the stuffed mushrooms for 15-20 minutes at 350°F, or until the tops are golden brown and the mushrooms are tender.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove the mushrooms from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh thyme sprigs for an elegant finish.
