Party City is Committed to Sustainability
Inspiring the Celebrations of Tomorrow
PCHI believes passionately that celebrations connect people so that they can experience joy together.
Just as importantly, we believe everyone needs to do their part to celebrate responsibly.
To that end, we are focused on making it easier for our customers to celebrate sustainably, and so operating a sustainable business is integral to achieving our purpose.
To live in harmony with the world around us, our priorities range from reducing our environmental impact — waste and recycling, climate change, and energy; to building better party habits with responsible use; to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DEI&B) and Human Capital Management programs that positively impact our associates and support our communities. Learn more about our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) efforts and performance by exploring Inspiring the Future of Celebration, our ESG Report.
Our commitment to sustainable innovation and products today will help pave the way for the celebrations of tomorrow.
Reducing Environmental Impact
PCHI is committed to more responsible manufacturing practices, reducing our environmental impact throughout our supply chain by minimizing waste throughout our enterprise. Here are some specific ways we’re demonstrating that commitment:
• Developing products that decrease impact on natural resources. We’ve allocated research and development resources to surface new materials and processes to make our products even more sustainable.
• Manufacturing napkins made with paper certified as sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC provides independent assurance that wood and wood-derived products like paper, support forests managed to the highest standards.
• Leading an industry first, scalable recycling program for balloon waste. We’re repurposing balloon waste as approved “waste to energy” fuel in the short term and investing in research and development to re-engineer balloons for a more circular long-term solution.
• Reducing packaging materials and increasing use of recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable materials in products and packaging. Our mature corrugation recycling program in operation at all manufacturing, distribution and retail locations has diverted over 19 tons of corrugation from waste streams.
• Reducing energy consumption from heating and cooling by at least 15%. We have revamped our HVAC replacement program at nearly all our Party City retail locations, transitioning current systems nearing their end-of-life expectancy to more energy-efficient alternatives.
Celebrating Responsibly
PCHI is committed to helping our customers celebrate responsibly by partnering with industry partners and our dedicated employees to create better avenues for the disposal of our products. Here are some ways we are demonstrating that commitment:
Conducting educational campaigns, including our Party City Balloon Basics. This information provides educates people on how they can enjoy balloons yet keep them out of waterways and power lines. Tips include keeping balloons weighted, ending irresponsible practices like balloon releases, as well as proper disposal of all balloons.
Piloting an in-store balloon recapture program that encourages people to return their used balloons for collection. Doing so ensures balloons stay out of the ecosystem. Additionally, we’re investing in research and development to recycle those balloons to truly keep the celebration going.
Caring for Communities
PCHI is committed to caring for our communities, with environmental and social responsibility being important components of the support we provide. Here are some ways we’re demonstrating that commitment:
• Selling reusable bags in all Party City stores with a portion of proceeds going to Wounded Nature - Working Veterans. This charitable organization assembles volunteer boaters and veterans to remove debris from hard-to-reach coastal areas to clean up local beaches.
• Donating to Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, in support of breast cancer awareness during the Halloween season. Inspired by Komen's Halloween birthday, Party City developed co-branded pink wearables and decorations, with a portion of sales and round-up donations at the register directly benefiting research, treatment, education, and community health programs. Dedicated to bringing hope and joy, Party City stands committed to aiding those facing the challenges of breast cancer.
• Working with a Diversity Review Committee (DRC) that explores inquiries, questions and concerns rooted in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DEI&B) and recommends product and marketing changes or enhancements. A request is generated when a customer or a team member comments on culturally related matters. A cross-functional advisory group, the DRC has a research and assessment process and offers recommendations on changes for the business to consider.
• Establishing an Enterprise Belonging Council (EBC) that seeks to foster a culture where all people are welcomed, celebrated, respected, and heard. The EBC, an employee advisory group with cross-functional team representatives, provides guidance and input on communications, programs, and company initiatives that build a more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment where all team members feel a true sense of belonging.
